1. Ubuntu. Ubuntu is by some measures the most popular Debian-based desktop Linux distribution, and for good reason. It offers a friendly graphical user interface and has the widest driver support. A lot of Linux users, both newcomers and experts, love it because it just works.

Let’s determine which one comes with more KDE software installed by default. First, we ran the df -h command on both systems. Here are the results: Kubuntu – 11 GB. Fedora KDE 4.4 GB. Then, we ran apt list --installed | wc -l and dnf list --installed | wc -l to see the total number of installed packages.

After running Linux (Debian 12) for almost half a year (after switching from Windows), I have now just gone through the ordeal of making a completely fresh, clean installation in order to attempt to verify/fix the various bizarre KDE Plasma issues which I suspected may have resulted from the β€œcruft” collected from me having originally installed XFCE and then later switched over to KDE
Install KDE Desktop on Debian 10 (Buster) from official upstream repositories added during installation. sudo apt -y install task-kde-desktop. After the installation, logout or reboot to start enjoying KDE Desktop Environment on Debian 10 Buster. $ logout or $ reboot. Use the Desktop Environment switcher on the Login screen to pick KDE Plasma.
KDE. KDE is a software project currently comprising a desktop environment known as Plasma, a collection of libraries and frameworks (KDE Frameworks) and several applications (KDE Applications) as well. So first of all, regarding KDE. KDE Plasma on Debian stable is my production environment. The good: Highly customizable, small things that increase usability significantly for me (e.g. very distinguishable active window title, window shadow), surprisingly low resource usage, looks pretty nice IMO.
